Property enhancements 'prove popular'

More than half of homeowners in the UK would purchase an older property that required repairs, renovations and enhancements - such as installing a kitchen extension or a conservatory - to get the perfect pad, according to Yorkshire Bank.

Research carried out by the financial services provider suggests that period homes at a reasonable price are more sought-after than new builds.

The survey also suggested that 57 per cent of men would not have a problem with the notion of home improvement work, in comparison to 49 per cent of females.

Gary Lumby, head of retail at Yorkshire Bank, comments: "In the current climate, it seems housebuyers are also on the lookout for a bargain and will take on relatively major renovation work[...] if it helps them to secure their dream home."

Meanwhile, deputy editor of BBC Gardener's World Magazine Lucy Hall recently stated that most homeowners view conservatories as rooms that serve a wide range of purposes.
