Many homeowners are becoming more creative to meet their accommodation needs by carrying out home improvements - which may include the installation of conservatories - according to the Building Cost Information Service (BCIS).
Research by the organisation, in partnership with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, suggests that given the current uncertain economic climate, many people are choosing to enhance and upgrade their properties rather than move.
Executive director of the BCIS Joe Martin comments: "This can be a wise strategy as home improvements add value to a property, and people will be well placed to take advantage of this uplift in value when the market shrugs off the current slump."
He concludes by noting that many people are choosing to have work on their property done now.
In related news, the Sunday Mirror recently urged consumers to use glass to maximum effect in their properties in order to benefit from natural light as much as possible.
